Developing for Android

Android has to be the most widely used mobile platform at the moment.
If you were out to develop mobile applications, looks like android would be the way to go. Massive market, all the development tools are free, the documentation is online and best of all, you do not even have to own an android device. The emulator that comes with the SDK is enough to test-run your applications.

First things first, this is an article for absolute beginners...SDK stands for Software Development Kit.

To develop for android, there are a couple of things you need to have...first you need Eclipse. Eclipse is an IDE (Integrated Development Environment).
In a nutshell, it is the environment used to develop.Using Eclipse, you can develop applications in a couple of languages, one of them being Android.

Next The Android SDK should be downloaded. This enables developers create applications for the Android platform. It includes sample projects with the source code, development tools, an emulator and the libraries required to build an android application.

Final thing you need is the ADT(Android Development Tools) plug-in. This offers access to very many features that help you develop android applications.

The most comprehensive and regularly updated guide on how to download and install these tools is this guide put together by Google. They provide all the instructions and documentation for all operating systems. So I recommend heading there for instructions on how to download.

Intro to Mobile Applications

A mobile application is a software application. It is designed to run on smartphones, tablets computers and other mobile devices. These are usually available through distributor platforms such as the Apple App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone Store and BlackBerry App World. These are normally operated by the owner of the mobile operating system.

While some apps are free, others do cost money .
They started out as applications generally geared towards general productivity and information retrieval however public demand and availability of developer tools led to rapid expansion in other areas such as mobile gaming, factory automation, GPS, banking, ticket-purchasing and much much more.

Their popularity has continued to rise, making them an inalienable part of our day to day lives. Think about monetary transactions. First it was barter trade, then monetary transactions and then came the plastic cards, credit cards. Seems the winds are shifting again. With the likes of PayPal, seems a digital wallet is all the rage now.

The prevalence in mobile applications has of course led to a subsequent increase in mobile application development and whereas that was once the domain of computer geeks, it seems to be getting more and more accessible to the layman as well.
There are now numerous applications that make programming easy for just about anyone.

Perhaps we shall delve into those later...

For now, just try to...

Tech It All In.

Ha ha!

The Beginning

I am trusting my judgement today, and starting to write for myself.
I have been trying to be a freelance tech writer, for a while and have come to realise not many people will give you a chance until they see what you have written before and where you have been published.
Hence, I have chosen the self-published way!!
6 months down the line...I will be somewhere...
That is what I keep telling myself.
But what I say does not really matter, does it?
What matters is what I do.

Here goes.
