A mobile application is a software
application. It is designed to run on smartphones, tablets computers
and other mobile devices. These are usually available through
distributor platforms such as the Apple App Store, Google Play,
Windows Phone Store and BlackBerry App World. These are normally
operated by the owner of the mobile operating system.
While some apps are free, others do
cost money .
They started out as applications
generally geared towards general productivity and information
retrieval however public demand and availability of developer tools
led to rapid expansion in other areas such as mobile gaming, factory
automation, GPS, banking, ticket-purchasing and much much more.
Their popularity has continued to rise,
making them an inalienable part of our day to day lives. Think about
monetary transactions. First it was barter trade, then monetary
transactions and then came the plastic cards, credit cards. Seems the
winds are shifting again. With the likes of PayPal, seems a digital
wallet is all the rage now.
The prevalence in mobile applications
has of course led to a subsequent increase in mobile application
development and whereas that was once the domain of computer geeks,
it seems to be getting more and more accessible to the layman as
well.
There are now numerous applications
that make programming easy for just about anyone.
Perhaps we shall delve into those
later...
For now, just try to...
Tech It All In.
Ha ha!
